What causes weak or failing grip
- Worn cylinder seals — internal leakage causes gradual loss of clamping pressure, especially noticeable while holding a load
- Low hydraulic fluid — the simplest thing to check before assuming a cylinder is bad
- Contaminated fluid — debris in the system can cause a cylinder to stick or respond inconsistently
- Damaged cylinder rod or mounting — impact damage can throw off clamp alignment entirely
How to tell it's the gripper cylinder
If the clamp grips fine initially but loses pressure and lets material slip while holding, that's a classic sign of worn internal seals allowing hydraulic fluid to bypass inside the cylinder. Visible fluid seepage around the cylinder body confirms it.
