Fleet Maintenance

Forklift Parts Demand in the Top U.S. Logistics Cities

Start reading

Forklift parts demand isn't spread evenly across the country — it tracks freight. Wherever containers, pallets and e-commerce orders move fastest, forklift fleets run the hardest, and that's where wear parts get replaced most often. Here's a look at the regions doing the heaviest lifting, and which parts tend to fail first in each one.

Southern California: Inland Empire & the Ports of LA/Long Beach

The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach together move a huge share of everything imported into the U.S., and the Inland Empire — Ontario, Riverside, San Bernardino — has grown into one of the country's largest warehouse and distribution corridors to move it all inland. Thousands of forklifts are cycling pallets there every day, and California's emissions rules are pushing fleets toward electric equipment faster than almost anywhere else in the country.

Parts that see the heaviest demand: tires, hydraulic components, electric motors, controllers, battery systems, battery reconditioning parts and charger systems. We're based in San Diego, right in this corridor, and stock press-on cushion tires, battery chargers and battery connectors to match.

Texas: Houston & Dallas-Fort Worth

Texas has become one of the fastest-growing logistics markets in the country, with Houston's port and petrochemical activity and Dallas-Fort Worth's central position making both cities magnets for large-scale distribution and manufacturing operations. Houston in particular runs a lot of equipment supporting oil and gas operations on top of standard warehouse work.

Parts that see the heaviest demand: heavy-duty tires, engine components, cooling systems and transmission parts — a reflection of both the higher-capacity equipment common in industrial settings and the heat those engines and cooling systems have to work against for most of the year.

Chicago, Illinois

Chicago's position at the crossroads of rail, trucking and warehousing has made it one of the busiest logistics hubs in the country, supporting everything from third-party logistics providers to food distribution and manufacturing. That volume of throughput means a correspondingly large forklift fleet running long hours.

Parts that see the heaviest demand: forks and attachments, brake systems and electrical components — the parts that take the most direct wear from constant load handling and stop-and-go operation.

The Northeast Corridor: New Jersey & Pennsylvania

E-commerce fulfillment centers around Newark and Allentown often run close to around the clock to hit next-day and same-day delivery windows, and that kind of continuous operation puts more hours on a fleet in a shorter span than almost any other environment.

Parts that see the heaviest demand: poly and cushion tires, bearings, seals and battery watering systems — consistent with equipment that's rarely powered down long enough for wear to show up gradually instead of all at once.

Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta is the Southeast's primary logistics hub, and its warehouse footprint has expanded quickly to support the region's retail and e-commerce fulfillment growth. As more of that new capacity comes online with electric equipment, the parts mix there is shifting accordingly.

Parts that see the heaviest demand: electric forklift components, charger systems, and replacement tires and wheels.

Why This Matters for Ordering Parts

Wherever your fleet operates, the pattern holds: the parts that wear out fastest are the ones taking the most repeated stress — tires from ground contact and load weight, batteries and chargers from duty cycle, brakes and hydraulics from stop-and-go handling. Fleets in every one of these regions are increasingly ordering parts online rather than through a dealer, for faster turnaround, better pricing and a wider selection than a single local supplier can stock.
